Silke Knetsch and Christian Streit work together as a team creating distinctive jewelry with its own language. Christian Streit was born in Romania. He interned and apprenticed as a goldsmith during travels in Germany and then became assistant to Michael Zobel in 1991. In 1993, he moved to Barcelona, studying with Ramón Puig Cuyas and Luisa Larena Zaporta. There, he met his partner, Silke Knetsch, also a goldsmith, and they decided to return to her native Germany and open their own studio in 1997. Their jewelry represents not just an assemblage of precious materials but signals an artistic and very personal form of expression. For the artists, it is the unique character, radiance, and interaction of the materials they use that find harmony and style in each piece. They never stop exploring the boundaries and possibilities of the work they create and the artists think of themselves as alchemists of design rather than jewelry makers. They use only fair-trade silver and gold, believing that ‘sustainable entrepreneurship is possible in all areas of life, even in the so-called luxury sector’.
