Meet Roc Majoral of Enric Majoral
Tuesday December 8
10 to 6
Enric and Roc Majoral, two generations of studio goldsmiths, work independently and synergistically, the style of Majoral Studio captured in both their work. Enric Majoral began his studio in the 1970’s, strongly influenced by the landscape and environment of his native Formentera, creating an original style that captures an essence of the Mediterranean in color and casual elegance. Many of the pieces, like sketches, capture the purity of formal line made three-dimensional at the bench by the goldsmith. He describes his style today as "a primitivism that is conceptual at root," evidenced by the paring away of decoration and the use of gems that are cut in uncompromisingly modern form. His son Roc grew up in the studio and the business, working full time since 2003, and becoming an award-winning designer on his own for his younger, more contemporary collections, still in the spirit of Majoral. The ‘Pluja’ series, which has become a classic, was awarded the Couture Gold award in 2012 and he was awarded the Silver prize in 2015.
Majoral’s work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Art and Design (New York) and represented in galleries throughout Europe and the United States.
