Tom Munsteiner's amethyst 'Mantis' sculpture is a new form he has been exploring in the past few months. Guided by the color and optic properties of the original amethyst crystal rough, he shapes the exterior form and then incises the cuts and angles from the back to concentrate color and optimize the interaction of light and material.
