Brooch with Ametrine

Many of Deborah Aguado's pieces deal with spatial concepts, of illusion and perspective, often considered to be domains reserved for painters and sculptors. Here in this sculptural brooch, Aguado sets an asymmetrical ametrine (amethyst-citrine) in an open asymmetrical setting. She surrounds this free-form focal point with rigid panels at each end, creating a satisfying balance between the geometric terminals and the free-floating center.

Note also how she suggests movement in the precise construction of the verticals, like trompe l'oeil louvers that appear to be closing or opening from one side to the other. Pin measures 4-1/2" long x 1-1/2" high.
