Georg Jensen (1866-1935) is arguably the most noted Scandinavian jewelry designer and maker. He began as a goldsmith and sculptor, opening his eponymous Georg Jensen atelier in 1904 in Copenhagen. His jewelry reflected his affinity for nature and its forms, his serious commitment to detail and craftsmanship, and captured the imagination of his Danish audience. Over 100 years later, we are still fascinated with the moonlight shine of light on metal and the Jensen brand’s commitment to noteworthy designers – including Henning Koppel, Arne Jacobsen, Torun, Astrid Fog, Arno Malinowski, Nanna Ditzel, Johan Rohde – a very incomplete list — has kept Georg Jensen jewelry in the design spotlight decade after decade. Jensen attributed each design to the individual designer, often with their signature or hallmark on their designs. The long history of Jensen is both classic and very Modernist, sought after by collectors and jewelry wearers alike.
