Early Swiss Military Wristwatch
Sterling silver .935 cushion form Avia Swiss wristwatch, circa 1920, is a 32mm x 32mm military watch with snap back, extended lugs, white enamel dial with painted originally luminous Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds register at six o’clock and 15J manual wind movement. Back monogram. These early wristwatches were designed for use of the military during World War I, in which officers needed easily wearable and viewable watches, rather than watches in the pocket. This is an excellent example of this vintage style, movement warrantied for 12 months by Aaron Faber.
