Rare Nivada Grenchen Depthomatic, 1970
Extremely rare stainless steel Nivada Grenchen Depthomatic diver’s watch, Ref. 104, circa 1970’s, is a self-winding center second early diver’s watch from this Swiss maker. The 39mm case has screw-down back, bi-directional black bezel, original dial with patina and ‘telephone dial’ style hour markers. This was the only diver watch with built-in depth gauge at the time: a notch in the side of the crystal near 3 o’clock allows access to a chamber along the outer edge to show your depth at all times up to 660 feet. The external metal bezel rotates in either direction to record elapsed time (useful in underwater diving applications). The overall design was both innovative and contemporary for the era. The automatic ETA caliber 2451 movement is warrantied by Aaron Faber for 2 years. We do not warrant this vintage watch for water use.
