Tod Pardon's 2010 series of brooch/sculptures are abstracted sculptures in metals, bone, wood and resin inlay. They are pared down from his earlier works, favoring segmented forms derived from his sculptural vocabulary. We see here the shapes we have come to know -- curvilinear, scooped out, boomerang forms -- but simplified.
This example, "Montorial', measuring 2-1/2" at the widest x 5" high, combines a segment of cut-out bone marked with 14K gold triangles, a curve of sterling silver, copper rectangle and a 'torso' of mixed media resin and inlay as the base of the brooch.
